Release: CaVE Database Manager v1.3.6

Thursday, February 10, 2022

I don't normally do release posts for these minor version, but since its been a little while since I have posted...

v1.3.6 brings an update for officially released Earthbound games, but also a minor fix to handle SP games being addable from the Add Stock Games menu since a SP for Super Metroid and something else on the Famicom were added.

Besides the new Full Unlocks, as usual for SNES/SFC, that's it!

I may as well bring up other news through. Let's see...

The community preset database project is a complete flop. Few seemed to care about the SNES database I worked hard on, and no one cared to contribute to try and fill out the others. So... That sucks. Since I realized it flopped, there one who has been trying is all. But I suspect that I'm going to have to do these myself. IDK. I may wait for CaVE 2.0 for that, since the preset database feature was originally intended for that. I could try going about it another way maybe.

Speaking of CaVE 2.0. I have been working on that more lately since the N64 hype train ran for the hills once things started getting hard, and I personally lost the little interest I had in advancing it. The CaVE 2.0 work has been mostly on defining its design and interface. Something thats modern, simple and suits all platforms that support is intended for. As a result, its a tiled list, very similar to the NSO app itself, and selecting a game from that brings up a paged view.

This is in no way final. Everything you see is placeholder art or colors. But it illustrates the simple design im going for. The hope is to... even further direct things towards usage being self explanatory and easy to figure out on your own. Some how... people still had issues with the File menu and right click context menu setup of the current CaVE...

This shows NSO simply because I'm focusing on that for the general design since there are more settings and meta info options to deal with. Classic is close, but 3DS, WiiU and Wii all have less to deal with. This is all about presenting information and options at this point. Not making changes or adding custom games. Though I have started sketching out saving. It's looking like there will be no Save Database type option. Another step im trying to eliminate. NSO and Classic will save when you exit back from the individual game pages, and 3DS, WiiU, and Wii just work differently. Those are only a "database" on your computer. There will be a export option for each game, and of course, saving will happen when you export.
