Dev log: New Full Unlock

Saturday, December 27, 2025

On my blog in the past I have liked to write what are... sort of journals of my development of different projects. Like one I particularly liked, despite an obnoxious encounter... was my Star Ocean canoe compatibility patch. For that I had to learn and grow my related skills, so in the end it felt quite rewarding to achieve a working patch.

Working on CaVE has stalled into just maintenance. It doesn't scratch certain itches for creating new things. DisplayEx has been kind of the same. Occasionally there has been a new feature to add to it, but that's uncommon.

I have been searching for a new mod idea to work on, for quite awhile. Mainly, I would like a new Level 2 mod to replace DisplayEx+, so that I can merge the functionality of that into the normal DisplayEx. I want something special for those who go above and beyond to support the project, but the Theme functionality... just should be part of the main mod.

I finally got around to working on a mod recently. One inspired by cucholix. He created a mod that has functionality similar to the Full Unlock, but does not need to be updated. At least, not often... or yet. He shared it with me, and... in my opinion it has just been luck that it has not needed to be updated yet. For me to release such a thing... I would want to eliminate luck as much as can.

What I have been up to lately

Tuesday, August 01, 2023

I got kind of sick of WoW not long after my last post. The token price just started inflating more and more, and while I could probably earn it each month... it just seemed less and less fun. Dragonflight itself kind of very abruptly lost its fun.

After I stopped playing, I ended up getting back to my coding hobby more. Namely, working on CaVE. I have been keeping it up to date with each NSO update, but that's it. After my last post on the topic... well... you see that part at the end? About encouraging people to not just give me silence in return? That... did not happen. Silence is exactly what I got. I really felt  that SEGA Saturn support was going to be well received, breath some new life into CaVE, and make it a more broadly valuable tool.

Cheap, Last Minute, Gas Station X-Mas Gift

Friday, December 25, 2020

I was thinking about what time of year it is. Usually I like to have something to post as a Christmas gift on the day. But this year, I had nothing. I haven't been working on a ton this year that would suit such a release. IDK. Maybe I could have delayed the doomed CaVE update if I had thought about it. I might have even been able to work in the proper SP title importable format I would have wanted. But I didn't think about it, and well. we know how that project went anyway...

Speaking of that. I may have just ignored posting a update this year. I often do if I don't have anything worth while. But... I felt bad due to the timing of the cancellation of those projects. It was almost like I was giving a "cancellation" for xmas, even if it was done several days earlier.

So, feeling bad about that, I started thinking "What could I whip up for a xmas day release this year, to help wipe the stink of that away even a little?".

I wasn't coming up with much. Most of my work isn't suited for just "whipping up" last minute. At the most, maybe if I had a update idea for SFROM Tool or something. But all I have for that right now isn't worth a new version.

I tried thinking... IDK, maybe I could pull off a miracle and reverse engineer my way into verifying a new Game Code (Preset ID). Whats big enough for that? Looking over the list, the best candidates are Dragon Quest 1&2, and Dragon Quest 3. But to figure out the IDs for those, and a lot of whats left really, it would take quite a bit of effort and luck. I came up with a plan of attack, but... fell shorter then you might think. Maybe later. But for now, I still need something.

I was thinking, "I'm working on a PCM audio tool. Why not something with that?". The tool itself isn't ready at all. I could maybe compile it so that half of it works, but I'd rather release the full thing. And besides, I'd still need to clean up a lot of it to be release ready.

In comes my big idea! lol

SNES Online: Findings

Saturday, November 30, 2019

As you should be easily aware of, I've shifted my research over from SNES Classic to SNES Switch Online. I'm still interested in SNES Classic, there's just more to figure out and work on right now with the Switch.

After I released CaVE I started getting back to work on the Switch .sfrom footer format. I got the basics documented and supported in SFROM Tool. But there's several unused parameters that have not been figured out.

Looking in the code, you can generate a full list of the params by value. And you can figure out which ones use a single byte value, and which use multi bytes. For some params, I had the convenience of there being support for the familiar SNESC sfrom format headers, and I could tell when a value is shared between the 2 and figure out the purpose for the one in the NSO .sfrom format. This is how I figured out how to use param 44, and get SFA2 and Star Ocean supported.

After that though, I had other things to focus on, so progress stopped. Now though I've been back to work! And I've figured out a few more params!

First up, we have...

News: The Bad Side of Doing Projects on the Internet

Thursday, September 13, 2018

Hey! It's been a few months!

I've currently moved on to working on more official projects to expand my profession portfollio rather than hobby projects, so there hasn't been much to post about here. I've stepped back from the SNESClassic hacking and development community almost entirely. I don't keep up with the day to day stuff anymore. But a few days ago I was brought back. At first for a good reason, but it quickly turn bad.

Dev Log: Star Ocean Canoe Patch

Monday, April 02, 2018

When I started the development of the Star Ocean canoe patch, for some reason I thought to try and keep a reasonable log of my point of view at that time as I thought that some people may find it interesting what goes into developing something like it. I planned to post it in a more broken up multi part post series, posting each part shortly after that part of development took place. But I ended up deciding against that as, I didn't know when the final patch would be released, and I didn't want to generate any extra hype for the patch that would feed any impatience. Doing so felt like it would just be an unfair teaser to people. So I held it off, thinking that I might post them shortly before I released the patch. But even then, I just wanted the patch out and elected to post it after, if at all.

Due to some recent unjust slander against me, causing me to have to defend myself against bogus claims, I'm now feeling more need to post my log. Originally this log would have made up 3 long posts, but I'm going to try and edit it and condense it down into this 1.

I'm back? In more ways than one.

Sunday, November 12, 2017

Just realized its been almost a year since I posted anything here. My professional projects started taking so much of a focus, I basically forgot I even had a hobby project blog. Not that I really had anything to post about here.

But things have changed now! A couple months ago I got into SNES communities again, though this time related to the then upcoming SNES Classic. It was nice to feed an old passion again, for the SNES. I found I had a ton of knowledge to share about it on places like reddit, that others could use. After the SNESC was released and I got mine I found myself delving deep into the modding portion of the community, to the point that I was made a mod on r/miniSNES which I happily accepted to help control the spread of proper true information.

New "Professional" Website

Sunday, October 09, 2016

Something I've been wanting to do for a while, but never seemed to get around to is making another website. This one has served me fine, but the fact is that some of the projects I've posted here over the years just don't belong along side others. Z-Net, Kokiri Forest, etc. Due to their nature they don't reflect a professional side of myself, and as I try to move forward with publishing assets for sale on the Unity Asset Store, one day make and sell a VR game, and even offer myself up for freelance services, the two sides don't belong together.

So I've been wanting to make a "professional" website for a while, and I finally did just that!

News: What I've Been Up To

Friday, February 08, 2013

If you've read my blog in the past, you can tell the URL is different now. Sadly I lost access to the old URL, so you probably had to dig up the new one manually. As annoying as this change over has been, the good side is I now have a good, stable, and REAL URL! So from this point on people shouldn't ever have to bookmark anything new for my blog or the Z-Net site.

This may not seem like to big of a deal to some, but it is to me. It's like I've finally taken a step up with my websites, and further legitimized my projects.

Riding this new high, I've done some work on Z-Net I again. Mostly just adding new, but small features. It's nice to be working on a project again thats done to the point that ZNI is, because I can see and use the results of that work better. The Z-Net 3 project is so far away from anything even shareable for alpha testing that theres just little enjoyment out of running it. While the code quality in ZN3 is much more superior, ZNI is a better program at this point. I won't lie, it's ratty code has been a pain to work with after improving my skills since last year, but at least I'm familiar with the code to the point were I don't get stuck or slowed down because I can't figure out how to do something.

Well, after I worked on a few features, and improved some of the code, something dawned on me. Last year before I officially started working on ZNI, when I was waiting on the poll results, I was working on my Z-Band code. It was integrated into the ZNI client at the time, and once I officially stared work on ZNI I backed up the scraps of Z-Band code, and disabled/removed it all. Because of that, I've never tinkered with it since then, and showing anyone of a demo of my work wouldn't be easy. Well, what dawned on me was that I could try integrating the code into ZNI in a way that I could easily have all the Z-Band code disabled/not compiled when I want it, leaving ZNI builds functioning normally. But when I wanted to test or refine the Z-Band code, I could easily enable it all and compile it.

So after a bit of work, I got the Z-Band code running again, and in the most modern version of the ZNI source! From there I've had to make some tweaks after figuring out the state I left the code in, just to get it working properly again. Then I realized it wasn't the most convenient setup to use, because I just made it as a proof of concept. So I've made some changes to make it simpler to understand and use. Before both the client and host had to click a register button at some point before the host presses start. That never felt right, so I've now made check boxes labeled "Play Registered Match". When those are checked, then the host presses the start button, the normal ZSNES launch process will get interrupted while the users get their match registration automatically submitted to the server. Once the match is confirmed with the server, the ZSNES launch process will resume. While technically this requires the same amount of interaction from the users, it just feels easier, and much more proper.

I still need to add a password entry field somewhere (it links up with your forum.z-net.us account, so a password is needed or else people could easily tank your ratings or otherwise impersonate you in tournaments). Also status messages of the registration process could use some work. In some cases it's to spammy, and other cases it's just not informative enough.

Once I tweak those last little bits I'll finish up some work on the normal ZNI code where I've been integrating some small features I've seen requested. I may also try my hand at posting a video of Z-Band in action, since I've never posted a video before that I've created, and I've realized before that Z-Band can't properly be showcased in pics.

Domain Name Issues Over For Now

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

I don't know what happened still, so it may happen again, but the issues with the url for Z-Net this blog and my the z-net email addresses are now resolved again.

News: Domain Issues

Saturday, July 14, 2012

Today the cu.cc domain I registered disappeared. I have no idea why, and I'm currently waiting on CS to get back to me. I've restored the blogs old domain name, and for now you can still access the Z-Net website through this url.

News: My Break

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

It seems I finally got around to letting myself take that break I've been really needing to, as evident by my lack of activity the past 2 weeks.

I said I needed to take a break, then went right back to work on ZNI, fixing bugs and trying to make some improvements. I should have released it sooner, but a few days ago I released a bugfix test version of Z-Net I on one of the bug report threads. As soon as I hear back with positive results on that, I'll likely release at least it. But there are a few other bugs I need to work on as well.

During my break the past couple weeks, I've been filling the time playing a couple SNES game on bsnes to give that emu a full try. I've been raiding on WoW just as I have been (4/8 Heroic!). And I've been trying to get back into playing Magic the Gathering again (away 4 years, and so much has changed even in the Eternal formats I play in).

With SNES, I've been mostly trying to get a Megaopolis in Sim City, something of which I never achieved when I was younger. Figure nowadays with the internet and guides being so easy to find, maybe I could do it now. But the guides suck really because they're incomplete and/or inconsistent. And most of the info I already know. I hate constantly restarting a map over, but the best I got recently was around 430k/500k.

With WoW, I have 2 raid groups. The main one with my Rogue, and the alt raid with my Druid tank. My rogues raid was stuck trying hagara for weeks. We had a choice between trying zon'ozz or hagara next. I felt zon'ozz would be easier, and the majority of the rest thought hagara would be. So we worked on her. Weeks and weeks later, after little progress on hagara we try zon'ozz for a change of pace. 3-4 attempts later, we kill him. I was right. It was a relatively easy fight for our group. Our alt group was stalling at 6/8 on normal for several weeks. We have to pug a few to many spots to often. But we did start getting the last 2 done as well the past few weeks. For heroics, all we've done is try ultra a few times, but that didn't go to well. That group only goes 1 day a week though, so we don't want to try to long on heroic bosses.

The Eternal format scene in Las Vegas died a few years ago. I only play that, as in my view playing the more common standard is more expensive, and a waste of all the cards I've collected since '93. Sadly, as far as I can tell, it's still dead. I'm only getting back into it because a friend reopened up a shop a few months ago, and in any variation of the game, I miss playing it. Hopefully I will still get to play plenty of Legacy casually though. I'd preffer tourneys, which I may see one soon, but casual Legacy is better then nothing I guess. Though I can't really expect the best competition with the best decks which is a bummer. Maybe in time something will work out. =/

For now I'm trying to get into various forms of PC based MTG. Sadly though the best program for it is the official MTGO with its unattractive pricing plan, and by some annoying miracle, no emu server has even been attempted for it yet, let alone made. There are other homebrew programs available, but they have a very clunky feel for a PC program due to lacking rules enforcement and automation like that of a game client like MTGO. And they have a bit of a learning curve as well. They seem best used/learned with friends, of which I no longer have any in which I keep in contact with if any would have the desire to try using such a program. Currently, OCTGN and MagicWorkStation seem like the best. I played OCTGN for a few games. It seems alright if I had a friend to play with. I played against someone random who described himself as the Legacy guy, and he played something random compared to my decks that are/were at worst "Rogue". So without finding a friend to play with, I won't be able to expect much from those. If anyone out there is into Legacy MTG and wants to try using one of these programs with me, let me know. Hopefully I will at least be able to setup some contacts with some real life people from my friends store, as I won't be going down there every week.

For Z-Net I Followers

Sunday, May 27, 2012

I figure I should probably state this more clearly for all the people coming to this blog for Z-Net I related info. This is no longer the projects home. That was officially made to be z-net.cu.cc when I released that website. Any new info on the project will be released there. This blog will go back to as it was before I begone being active on getting ZNI ready for a release, in that this blog is my personal blog. Meaning its about my rants and feelings about whatever, and about all my projects, Z-Net related or not.

If you're just coming here for Z-Net related info, then I suggest you may want to change your book mark to http://z-net.cu.cc/, the news page, or the forums. With that said, you don't have to. If you find other things interesting here, by all means check on this blog too. I just felt I should make that clear to people.

News: Even More Z-Band Server Page Work

Monday, April 16, 2012

I had a wow raid today. And despite wanting to try out some Legend or Grimrock too, I didn't get around to it. When not raiding I only managed to get a little done for my projects. Most of my time was spent setting up a local php environment for developing. Making a change to my code, then uploading it to byethost and running it adds a ton of extra time to everything. And byethost just plain sucks a ton more then it used to. I'm noticing I cant even seem to click through 3 pages on the forum moderately quickly without this stupid high traffic error showing up. That wasn't a problem ever before. If I ever get Z-Band released, I certainly wont be able to use that POS service. Now more then ever I'm thinking I'm going to have to take donations to get a real server up and running if the project ever gets to that point.

Anyway, for now my php dev time has sped up a lot thanks to EasyPHP. I never wanted to try a local environment before because it was all to clunky. But not this. The install and setup for this is a lot easier and cleaner.

After that, I got to work on properly linking the phpBB3 accounts system. I got everything done for the login stuff now, though just with the registration. But the score update stuff should mostly be copy-and-paste from that. After that, I'm not really sure what I'll work on next. Perhaps making sure all forum accounts can gain rankings with Z-Band. The Z-Band score database is separate from the phpBB3 database, so a user isn't listed in the Z-Band database until I add their name. To keep the database clean, rather then just add new forum members to it with a 0 score for everything, I should probably tie it to the registration, and have the first time a users tries registering a match, generate it there as needed.

Perhaps tomorrow I can get some D3 or Legend of Grimrock in. =/

EDIT: Realized a forum registration issues that caused users to be unable to register. So if there were users wanting to do so, it's fixed now.

News: More Z-Band Server Page Work

Sunday, April 15, 2012

Today I played around with merging the Z-Band registration and score update pages with the phpBB3 forums. Unlike the other 2 previous pages, these 2 require being logged in to the forums to access. I have them working with getting the users account name, outputting messages correctly, and generally working as intended. But both have yet to really tie both into the php account system properly.

Once that's done though, I suppose streamlining them a bit would be best. Then I don't know. I'm considering making them useable as is, so people could do some rankings manually if they wanted. It would probably be a decent beta test for it all. But that's not to great of an idea with a lack of a proper client like Z-Net or zbattle. I can't say I'd recommended using ZN2 with it. I've considered making and releasing a Z-Net 2.0 Lite for the hell of it, so maybe that would make sense with it. lol

A Lite version would be little more then the "Launch Manually" options from ZN2, and a stripped down settings window. Basically just requiring users to log in mIRC as a normal IRC client, talk to other people in the room, and decide to play from there, leading to using those Launch Manually options. ZN2 regular could work just fine, and in should still kind of be easier then that. In theory. But I'll be honest. There were probably still a few bugs left in it before I stopped work on it, and I just don't feel like supporting those bugs right now. A lite version however would strip away most of what was potentially buggy. But this all is just an idle thought, and I don't know how serious I would be about making it. I suppose just putting it out there as on my mind is enough, and from there people could express their interest in it if they wanted. From there I'd give it more thought. At the very least, people could just install ZN2 right now and use nothing but those existing options if they wanted to keep it simple. But anyway, I'm getting sidetracked.

In other news. The poll is growing... well... surprisingly. 5 more since my last post. Combined with the growth from the day or 2 previous, and well, hmm. I'm not sure I'm ready to call fowl on it yet, but I'm skeptical. I think most of the recent votes are coming from the ZSNES forum post that I replied to. That post was around for several days before that, bringing hits. But not this much. Perhaps it was just my reply catching more google searches. If not, all I can do right now is say, if someone is stacking the votes, please stop. The goal was chosen for a good reason. For the users as much as for me. So that I would know there was enough people interested in using it to sustain a minimum player base so users are left with no one to play with, as little as possible. But hopefully that isn't the case, and instead things are just picking up, likely for the reason I said.

Also, since I've been staring at the forums so much lately, I got around to posting some starter and informational posts for if/when people start using them.

News: Forums?

Friday, April 13, 2012

I planned to do some tinkering around with ZN or ZB today, but didn't get around to it. However I did mess around with some forums I set up in August. At the time I created them just for examples when teaching myself some php. And possibly to attempt to merge Z-Band account info with. I may still do that. But till now, I haven't really done anything with them.

I've felt there was no point of making them public, as I wouldn't expect anyone to care enough to use them. In the past when my Z-Net projects were active, having forums for them made sense. Right now, I have no such project really. Perhaps in the future is all.

Still, recently I figured, meh, whatever! There's not many good reasons, but enough to just post a link to them and let people use them if they would want to.

I've basically set them up around Z-Net and Z-Band. Anything relating to the past present, and future of those projects. It's just 3 simple forums right now, though I don't really expect a need for more.

Here's the link. I'll put it in the side menu later.

News: Continuing My Fun With the Z-Band Code

Monday, April 09, 2012

I messed around more with the Z-Band code. I refined it some more to be more inline with how the usage process is supposed to work. I added a "Register" button to the host and client windows of my zbattle clone. Once the host chooses a game, each player can then press that button. Once they do so, all the Z-Band magic starts its work and waits for the host to press the start game button, ZSNESW to load up on both ends, and players to start racking up the scores. Once their done and ZSNESW closes on one of their ends, Z-Band automatically un-registers the match with the server, and the new rankings can be viewed on my leaderboard page I created. I still love seeing it all in action!

Additionally, I set up a basic User Log page. There's not much purpose to it atm since this is a private project, but it was easy to setup. So why not? I created it for the tournament part of Z-Band, as I realized I was neglecting that part of the projects goal. A true tournament server would be much more involved and mostly automated, but this would at least allow a designated official to track the scores of the users to be manually calculated in a manually run bracket. There's not much to see outside of my personal testing results, but I don't mind linking this page. I'll likely link the Leaderboard later after I clean it up a bit. Its all basic though, so not much to see.

If/when I fool around with the code next, if my efforts aren't to clean the code up some more, it would likely be to refine the registration process even further. I think the goal of only needing the host to click a register button would be best. I could probably completely automate it, but even if I did release this project it would make sense not to force people into rankings. Sometimes you may just want to play causally, do some practicing, or not be listed at all. Its strange to be thinking about such considerations, as I hadn't really thought much about such things if the project got this far along. I suppose an auto register checkbox would make sense. But I also have to think about the case were one player isn't even signed up with an account. This would be more code I'd have to work on, but not something I think I would be working on at this stage of the project. Core stuff first and foremost!

In other news. To help give the poll more of a chance at reaching the results I hope for, I extended the deadline by 2 days to the exact end of this month. Traffic to my blog could pick up by then, but I still don't see it as looking good to hit that reasonable 50 vote minimum. Sadly, while these projects rely on users to do the bulk of advertisement, users generally just don't do it. I understand why, but it does suck. =( I can track my blogs hits and were they're coming from. Only really one person has tried telling other people as far as I can see, and even there (the ZSNES forums) the interest has been non-existent because that forum is a ghost town compared to what it used to be. Most of the hits come from google and my efforts to catch as many potential hits from it as I can. While I'm against the idea of me personally signing up for different forums and attempting to inform people, I was recently considering it with one place I won't mention by name. I figured I'd just see how friendly the community is first before I'd consider it more. Sadly, not to friendly it seems. That matters to me only because I have a feeling they may be unwilling to accept my project, perhaps even aggressively. And well, starting a community around this project, full of unfriendly people, of course doesn't sound to good. Still though, my effort so far may have just been to poor. So I might try again sometime.

Anyway, to better explain myself as to why I will only do so much advertising. First, doing so sucks. I've hated it with my past projects. I'll spare the details as to why it sucks, but for me as the developer of the projects, it just does. Second, I feel it would be counterproductive to what I'm trying to get out of the poll. If the project doesn't have enough users that would be willing to do what they can to help it grow, then I just don't see much hope for the projects future. Third is based of the state of this project. It's current state is about a poll. Not a downloadable/useable program itself. If it were about the program itself, as much as I'd hate it, I would probably be scouring the internet for websites to submit the project to as news. I just don't think many people would figure a poll is main page news. A poll is something more suited to something like a random or regular user posting about on a forum. Fourth I guess would be that, I've already done plenty myself, and that my time is part of the issue with this project. Sure I can get bored from time to time. but when I do, my time is spent on this blog, or on my projects. And I'm just 1 man. You guys are many. With your help, this could spread much further, faster, and with less individual effort then I could do alone.

Anyway, I just felt I might need to share that.

News: Z-Net 3.0 - Adjusting the Voting Goal

Wednesday, April 04, 2012

After thinking about it for a few days, 150 votes is a bit much to expect. While zbattle likely had that many users or more, it didn't have enough to were I should expect 150 of them to find their way to my little blog. I should shoot for some more realistic number of votes, as all that would really matter is how many people are using the program at any given time once I did release it. Additionally, based on the amount of interest, I simply may release it "as-is" with as much polish as I care to invest time into it, then move on with no plans to maintain it outside of critical issues. The new minimum goal for that plan is now 50. If the poll gets more votes, depending on how many, I'll evaluate if I'll want to invest time into maintaining it.

Also, I temporarily removed the link from the side menu to the 2010 client page, to help avoid confusion. I included a link to it in the contents of the new client page as a reference though. I've also moved the 2.0 link down on the side menu to the past projects menu to help avoid confusion as well. I can always move it back later.

I've fixed some broken links to files hosted on megaupload too. To my shock, I also noticed that I typed up, but never posted my Super Mario Kart hacks or AR Extractor program. The SMK post is now up, and posted at the original date when I created it. So its not on the main page. However, there is now a link to it on the left under "Past Projects". The AR Extractor I'll leave as is for now, and likely place it on a "Misc" page at a later date.

News: Project Codename: Z-Net 3.0 (The Alternative to zbattle)

Saturday, March 31, 2012

In the past couple days I've devoted some free time to my blog and more specifically, the zbattle/Z-Net situation. Rather then continually re-editing the last post, I decided to create a new one.

I created a brand new page for the unreleased clone project I'm offering up as a alternative to zbattle. I've given it the code name "Z-Net 3.0" for now, but if the project does ever get moving I may go with a different name, though still including Z-Net in some way. This new page serves as a central hub for all info relating to the project, including it's origins, present status, and potential future. As well as any polls regarding the project and how you can help. Additionally I enabled comments on that page for any discussion. You can find the link to the page on the left, directly beneath the Home link. I may refine this page some more if I can, but for the most part, I've done all I can to optimally leave this projects fate in the hands of users, allowing me to return to filling my free time as I normally would, and just check up on this blog to see how things are looking with this project.

With such a page, I won't have to worry about posting unrelated news and hindering any attention to that project or polls. If you chose to share a link to this blog regarding that project, you can simply link to that page rather then the main page.

I've also done what I could to optimize this blog for catching search engine terms related to the project. It's still early in the month deadline, but if traffic stays as it has the past couple days, I doubt I'm going to feel there's enough interest in the project after its over. It's not easy deciding on a number, but I guess I will go with 150 votes. If the poll hits that sooner, then I will get started on working on the project that much sooner, assuming I have the time. Of course, if I feel the voting has been cheated in some way, I may either readjust that goal, or perhaps completely remake the poll.

News: zbattle Dead Again. Time for Z-Net's Rebirth?

Thursday, March 29, 2012

An old friend/Z-Net regular/mod (Sferics) dropped by the comments and informed me that zbattle is dead again, in regard to the website and program servers being down. I've decided and stated before that if that were ever to happen, I'd consider releasing the 2010 stand-alone/spoof client I made, at the very least as a zbattle alternative/replacement so those zbattle users have a new home. I don't know what happened to zbattle. While I certainly expected at some point to see zbattle down here and there from maybe a couple days to a week, I didn't expect a month or possibly permanent downtime. Veeborg seemed on the ball in recent years when it came to getting zbattle back up and running. So I never expected to actually be considering releasing my thus far, private project. But here I am, now doing so.

My consideration on this matter is based mostly on users desire being sufficient to be worth my time and effort of polishing it up and maintaining it. So to see how those users desire stands, I've created a poll. I listed 6 options to select from. None of those options are a "no" as, if you don't want it or don't care, you can simply not vote. This poll isn't meant to see how much of a percentage of users want it, it's just to see if there is a sufficient amount of users interested in general. I just chose to add these choices so that if/when it meets the requirements for moving forward, I can be better prepared for a more optimal direction with the project. The most popular result wouldn't necessarily be used, but rather just help guide the project on whats best for the users. I'm going to give it about a 1 month cut-off date. After which, if there's a significant amount of attention on the poll, I'll go from there. Perhaps sooner with enough interest.

I personally won't be spreading word of this poll to try and catch the attention of former zbattle users. Advertizing my past projects when they were alive was involving enough, and doing so for a project in this state, even if its a poll requiring votes as a direct result from hits to this blog, is beyond the amount of involvement I'd want to invest in it at this point. If you want this project released, want a new home for zbattle users, and feel like spreading the word to others who might share that desire, go ahead and link to this blog, directing people to the poll.

For reference, I'll include a link at the end of this post to a new page I've created for my this potential 3rd installment of the Z-Net project/zbattle clone/spoof/alternative, in case you have never been to this blog before and/or don't know what this all is about. Also below I'll include a short quotable that sums all this up for anyone you may share this with.

In my boredom a couple years ago I created a 100% working clone of zbattle that I have never released. Now that zbattle seems to be dead, the criteria for me to actually release it has been half met. The other half requiring enough interest from players. Simply, if you want it, show your interest by voting on the poll on my blog and/or spreading the word to others who may be interested as well.
